To NASA and Beyond

Last weekend we were looking for a fun day trip and it just so happened that Averie was learning about space at school. Since “Space Center Houston” is the most popular tourist destination in Houston and we had never been, we decided it was time to go! However, when we asked Averie if it sounded fun she said “No, it’s dark there. I don’t want to go.” Once we assured her we weren’t actually going to space, she thought it sounded fun.

The weather was great and we had a really good day. Although we were hesitant to take the kids on a 90 minute tour, we decided to start with the tram ride tour all around NASA because we heard it was the best part…and it was! We saw Mission Control, the Mock-Up Facility where the astronauts train in a life size replica of the International Space Station and Space Shuttle, and the Saturn V rocket. It was all very cool and Averie took it all in and liked seeing the space suits the most. Grady was very good on the tour and his favorite part was the tram ride itself. He waved his arms in the air the whole time and then as it came to pick us up from the last stop, he started waving his arms in anticipation. He got lots of laughs!  You would have thought we were going a lot faster than 10 mph!

After lunch back at the Space Center, we went in the cockpit of the shuttle, the space-lab mock-up, and of course Kids Space. It was big fun for all and this week Averie took pictures to show her friends at school and astronaut ice cream to share at lunch!
